Craft Paint

Craft paint is designed for a wide variety of projects from kid’s crafts to fine art. It comes in tubes and containers ranging in size from 1-2 ounces up to a gallon. Typically a set of paint will come with a range of colors including most colors of the visual spectrum, red, orange, yellow, green, blue, violet as well as black and white. A smaller set contains the primary colors, red, blue, yellow as well as black and white.

Craft paint is usually a non-toxic acrylic paint that is fast drying and easy to clean up. If kids are involved it is important to have non-toxic paint as it often finds it way into their mouths. Colors to avoid for kids are cobalt blue, titanium dioxide white, and all spray paints. Colors can be mixed to create custom colors and acrylics dry fast enough to be layered over and over again. When thinned with water they become more transparent as well.

Craft paint can be found at art stores, craft stores, as well as online. Most sell both oil and acrylic paint. Oil paint is a beautiful medium to paint with but requires a lot of time and care as well as knowledge of how the oil will cure. It is very time consuming to do multiple layers but every stroke can be worked on until it reaches perfection. Many oil painters do their backgrounds in acrylic to save time while still getting the beautiful oil finish.
